Meet our team
Michelle Cohen
CO-FOUNDER, BIRTH & POSTPARTUM DOULA, PRENATAL & POSTNATAL YOGA INSTRUCTOR
Hi! I’m Michelle, co-founder of Conscious Care Collective, LLC. I am a mom to two teen boys. The joys and challenges of their births and postpartum seasons led me into the depths of this work. I have now worked with hundreds of families in their childbearing year as a prenatal and postnatal yoga teacher (since 2008), a ToLabor certified birth doula (since 2012), and a Center for Sacred Window Studies postpartum caregiver (since 2019). I’m passionate about companioning alongside individuals as they navigate transformation. I love the relationships I build with my clients and students, who are dedicated to being informed, are open to using the best of holistic wisdom and Western knowledge to support their births, and who want to have an awakened and present birth and postpartum experience. In addition to one-to-one support, I also teach prenatal yoga at a studio, labor preparation classes for a perinatal mental health app, and facilitate pregnancy circles. I am also the Co-Chair of the DC Chapter of Postpartum Support International. Click here for a full list of my certifications and trainings.
Sarah Pedersen
CO-FOUNDER, FULL SPECTRUM DOULA, FOLK HERBALIST, MATERNAL HEALTH RESEARCHER
Hi! I’m Sarah, co-founder of Conscious Care Collective, LLC. I’ve been working with mothers and families for two decades as a doula, advocate, and researcher. Over the years, I’ve studied many modalities and disciplines that shape who I am and how I show up for families. My work today lives at the intersection of science and soul. As a doula, educator, and spaceholder, my mission is to offer what our popular culture does not – time-tested healing support so that new parents feel fully nurtured, connected, and at ease in their unique experience. I’m certified as a full spectrum doula with Doula Trainings International and have completed extensive postpartum care and herbal training with Innate Traditions, MotheringArts, and the Wild Ginger Herbal Center. In addition to my work as a doula, I’m also a maternal health researcher focused on equitable outcomes and access to perinatal health care, the Co-Chair of the DC Chapter of Postpartum Support International, and a member of the DC Perinatal Quality Collaborative.
Our story
The seed for Conscious Care Collective was planted in early 2020 when Michelle and Sarah crossed paths as part of their doula work. Three years later, Michelle was Sarah’s postpartum doula after the birth of her second baby. Their experience together underscored the value of mother-focused perinatal care and the need for more of this type of care. As Sarah’s son grew, so did their vision for Conscious Care Collective. In 2026, six years after their initial meeting, Michelle and Sarah launched Conscious Care Collective.
